The Met Gala prides itself on amazing ensembles that showcases the true artistry of fashion and art and the 2017 edition didn’t disappoint. The iconic fashion and lifestyle magazine Vogue hosted an immersive visual art installation at the Met Gala 2017 that flipped the idea of a traditional photo booth on its head.

Labelled as the Instagram booth, celebrities from the Kardashian’s and Nicki Minaj to Frank Ocean and Pharrell to Met Gala hosts Katy Perry and Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour created their very own visually mesmerising artistic video.

The art installation was a collaboration between filmmaker Gordon Von Steiner and conceptual design studio Sila Sveta. The inspiration for the designs came from the Comme Des Garçons archive. From ethereal florals to structured geometric patterns, the setting was in theme of Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between. One of our favourites was Met Gala host Katy Perry dressed in a metal headdress, face veil, and cloud of crimson tulle and chiffon by Maison Marginal Artisanal, solemnly strutting in front of an undulating Bridget Riley-esque checkerboard, wearing Louis Vuitton. To top off the visual effects, each video had its own soundtrack. Ranging from sweeping romantic tunes to hard-edged and futuristic, the results are miniature music videos that are individually compelling in their own way.  The set up allowed the celebrity attendees to stand still and let the light engulf you in its ever-changing beauty.

Last year Vogue’s Magnus x Machina: Fashion in an Age was the start of an entirely new immersive photo experience that took the red carpet and experiential events by storm. A bespoke light tunnel was a striking, visual representation of the Vogue Insider Experience.
