2014 Round-up Part Two – Highlights
The second half of the year saw us jet setting all over Europe creating further innovations in photographic experiences that will undoubtedly play a big part in 2015.
Uefa Champions League Final in Lisbon
The most prestigious competition in European football came to an emphatic conclusion in May when Real Madrid defeated their local rivals in the penultimate clash to take home the illustrious accolade of being crowned kings of Europe.
To coincide with the biggest event on the football calendar, the UEFA Champions League took over Lisbon by holding a 3-day festival at the historic square Praça do Comércio, in the heart of the Portuguese capital.
Thousands of fans descended on the festival site and queued patiently to get a glimpse of the Uefa Champions League trophy and take home a very special memento from a tailored photographic experience set up in collaboration with Facebook. Over the 3 days, 4,000 photos were taken, nearly 14,000 copies printed and approximately 1,400 uploads to Facebook with the #UCLfinal keyword on each picture. The trophy experience was only one of the experiences set up at the festival park, the second innovation was the festival site photo app sponsored by HTC. The bespoke HTC app caught the spirit of the festival park and added some social media buzz to the whole event.
Zoo Lates at London Zoo
London Zoo’s wildest event, Zoo Lates, has been described as the classic English Garden Party, and aside from the exotic animals in the zoo, the event was themed with all kinds of quintessential British trimmings for the 2014 edition. The event took place every Friday throughout June and July, and for thousands of party revellers they got to witness the Zoo come alive, even before unwinding at the bar.
To fit the Zoo Lates theme, the graffiti Jungle Taxi Photo Booth was a permanent fixture for the second year running. Hand-sprayed with monkeys, frogs, flowers and ferns covering the exterior and dangling crystal style chandeliers, flowers and astroturf completing the inside – plus the wildest selection of props!
River Island RI Cover Star
River Island’s Style Insider magazine launched their Autumn Winter 14 campaign in September, to coincide with #everyweekisfashionweek. Shoppers were given the opportunity to be part of a campaign to become a River Island cover star.
The campaign launched at River Island’s flagship store in Bond Street and throughout the week shoppers had their photo taken by a customised Style Insider photo pod. All the photos were then put into a prize draw to become the next #RICoverstar with a £200 shopping spree up for grabs.
Secret Garden Party
What started as a birthday party in the early noughties, Secret Garden Party has established itself as one of the best open secrets across the festival season. We were on hand to capture all the sun-kissed faces inside the psychedelic Enchanted Taxi Photo Booth, which left some of the weariest eyes at the end of night question whether they had fallen into another dimension.
Secret Garden Party nestles around a shimmering lake that acted as the focal point in front of a natural curved grassy auditorium; one of the most impressive spectacles across the weekend was the firework show on the Saturday night, before legends of hip hop Public Enemy took to the stage to send everyone into a bit of a frenzy. HTC – Mobile innovation Booth
Following on from the success in the summer with the HTC UEFA Champions League App, the mobile giants approached us in August to design a booth around their latest smart phone (at the time), the One M8. The interactive HTC One Booth has traveled up and down the country to Liverpool, Manchester and London, allowing VIPs and ex pros the opportunity to post a selfie on the handset and upload it to Facebook and email, before collecting a printed copy. HTC will continue to use the booth in 2015 for the qualifying stages of Europe’s most prestigious football competition.
Red Bull Culture Clash Tour
Throughout 2014 Megabooth has collaborated with global force and energy drink Red Bull on a number of tours and events curated by the brand. Megabooth customised a photo booth that played an integral part in their renowned Culture Clash Tour.
The Red Bull Culture Clash final culminated at a packed to the rafters Earl’s Court on October 30th, 20,000 sweaty music lovers witnessed four grueling rounds of battles that went on for four hours at the largest head to head clash London has ever seen. The Red Bull Culture Clash crown went to Rebel Sound, a collective made up of Chase & Status, Rage, Shy FX and David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan MBE. Read the review here.

A trip to Glasgow for MTV’s European Music Awards, presented by Nicki Minaj, took place at the impressive sight of the SSE Hydro arena. Durex has collaborated with MTV to help challenge and raise awareness of HIV. The ‘Someone Like Me’ campaign has been running for three years with an overall aim to help form a world free from HIV. To help promote the campaign the iconic London Taxi Photo Booth adorned with the latest Durex ‘Someone Like Me’ posters was parked outside the arena. ‘Did you go in the Taxi Photo Booth at the MTV EMA? O2 and Samsung Bus Tour
The Samsung and O2 experiential Christmas bus tour followed the success of their 8-week campaign earlier in the year showcasing the company’s family and student deals. The branded double decker bus that travelled to popular shopping destinations all over the UK, featured custom-made installations with a fully functioning playground and charging station that used kinetic energy to charge visitors phones.
Megabooth collaborated with Samsung to build the photo booth installation inside the bus for all visitors to take a home a small keepsake from their visit. You can view more photo booth tours and other ways you can build a photo booth into all kinds of spaces on the MB blog.
The Social Picture
Sister company and photography agency The Social Picture launched in September, the agency currently represents a roster of 5 professional photographers. Continuing to strive for excellence with their select group of handpicked photographers sharing a mixture of styles and ideas and a wealth of experience at corporate events, social events, conferences, award evenings. The EMEA Herbalife Extravaganza 2014, described prior to the event, as the biggest in their history, took place this year in Prague. After a photo pod nearly caused a small security breach at the 2013 Extravaganza, due to it’s popularity, it wasn’t long before they approached us with a proposition to give something back to their loyal following. ‘Hashtag printing’ is the newest product to our expanding product range in 2014, and was at the top of Herbalife’s wish list. In a sold out 02 arena in the Czech capital, The Herbalife faithful used the mediums of Twitter and Instagram to upload photos to their preferred social media channel, with the all-important #HerbalifeExtravaganza. Their photos would then pop up at the state of the art kiosk area (below) for them to then print off. To learn more about hashtag printing view the go ‘Social’ page.
If you use social media to communicate with friends, as we all do, or have taken it one step further and set up your own blog, it’s hard to escape GIF images. A GIF is a collection of still images stitched together to make one animation. We’ve now adapted this feature to create a Mega-GIF photo booth.
