16 Jun The Hive at Kew Gardens
The Hive Launch at Kew Gardens – opens 18th June 2016
Designed by artist Wolfgang Buttress, The Hive is a unique, awe-inspiring structure set amongst a wildflower meadow in Kew Gardens. The Hive was originally created as the centrepiece of the UK Pavilion at the 2015 Milan Expo.
Inspired by the humble bee’s vital role in the world of pollination in feeding the planet, The Hive stands in at 17 metres tall and weighs in at 40 tonnes and tells the story through an immersive multi-sensory experience. Sound and light in The Hive is controlled by the workings of the actual beehive. Constructed from around 170,000 aluminum parts, The Hive comes alive with hundreds of glowing LED lights flashing in response to the buzz of bees with a unique live soundtrack.
