Barbour is the epitome of British style and renowned across the world for creating iconic quilted and wax jackets. The International collection combines a robust and practical construction with understatedly elegant design. The focus for London Fashion Week was their Barbour International range that represents the thrill of motorcycling since 1936. The biker-inspired menswear collection celebrates that legacy with style and authenticity. With a rich motorcycling heritage of over 80 years, the presentation took guests on a journey from the beginning of the brand in 1936, through to 1964 when actor Steve McQueen wore Barbour International as a member of the US motorcycling team. The show finished with a preview of their Spring Summer 18 menswear collection.

Guests started their Barbour fashion week experience through an immersive 3D Projection room, where catalogues from the Barbour archives were brought to life, allowing visitors to document the brands origin in 1936 to the present day.

We installed an interactive Boomerang GIF booth that was set up to capture the three significant dates using the classic Barbour International logo making up the background for the photo. The juxtaposition of these two ideas was to take visitors on a journey from where it all started to the present. You can view the GIF gallery here.

Developed for the 1936 International Six Day Trials (ISDT) event, and hence its name, the Barbour International became so popular that it was worn by almost every British team right up until 1977.

1964 was a key year in Barbour International’s history and actor Steve Mcqueen was at a large a big contribution to the success that has followed for the brand since. In ’64 the International suit was worn at the ISDT trials in East Germany by all of the American team, that team included Mcqueen. At the height of his acting career, those iconic images of Steve and the US team wearing Barbour International have played an integral part of the brands direction and was the focus of the Barbour international x Steve Mcqueen collection first introduced in 2011.

2018 – The present
